1795 Br.2a, C.2a (R-3). Punctuated Date, Lettered Edge. Thick Planchet. Choice About Uncirculated-55. Early die state with the die lump on the reverse covering three denticles. Here is an exceptional and highly desirable example of this issue, boasting wonderfully clean surfaces and attractive medium brown color with tantalizing reddish tints in the fields. Careful study reveals two exceedingly thin parallel hairline scratches on Liberty's neck, and a tiny edge bruise left of the 'Y' of LIBERTY. There are a couple of superficial reverse edge marks. This coin is a sharply struck example of an elusive and popular issue. This coin must be recognized as one of the finer examples available of this date, the few Mint State coins known are to be found in advanced collections and may not reappear on the numismatic market in the foreseeable future. Early copper is always in strong demand, especially pieces as well-preserved and attractive as this remarkable coin.
