1885 WB.101. Gem Brilliant Proof. A Gem that retains deep frost on the lettering and devices, which are offset by the carefully mirrored fields. For the collector, it is important to carefully preserve these features, as careless handling quickly can quickly limit the grade. White save for a ring of dark gold with a hint of blue on the edge, and highly appealing for this date. Identifiable by a shallow, circular planchet flaw between the first two stars. The Philadelphia Mint struck a total of 930 pieces in Proof of this date. This example is certainly in the top ten percent of those that survive, and would make a welcome addition to the most advanced collection.
