1879 WB.102. Brilliant Uncirculated, and easily Choice or better but for signs of a past gentle cleaning...1879 WB.102. Brilliant Uncirculated, and easily Choice or better but for signs of a past gentle cleaning which left telltale hairlines in the fields. The lustre is slightly disturbed as well. Reflective fields show few other signs of handling, and starting to retone with a trace of gold near the rims. With a mintage of a mere 5,900 pieces all examples are scarce, and this one is typical of those that survive. Many collectors form a date collection of these rare issues, starting with 1879 and running through 1890. Despite tiny mintages, most dates from this period can be obtained in the Mint State grades desired, and such a collection can be accomplished with patience.
