One of the finest seen of this variety, and with exceptional eye appeal. The surfaces are excellent with minimal signs of handling from circulation and boast fiery orange-gold toning with a touch of iridescent blue near the edge. The strike is rock solid throughout, and there are no adjustment marks. A magnifier will discover a pair of die lumps, one on Liberty's shoulder, the other above in her hair. It appears something fell onto the die and gouged it, and this obverse continued service for a considerable length of time after this event. A truly magnificent coin that is within the top four of the variety for both die states.

Ex The Queller Family Collection of Half Dollars (Stack's, October 2002, lot 28); purchased from Stack's privately, February 1982.
