The Carson City Mint struck only 97,000 Trade Dollars in its last coinage of this denomination and many of them were undoubtedly included in the massive melt that took place on July 19, 1878 at this Western Branch Mint. Here is a wholly satisfying example of this historic date which combines scarcity and beauty of a high order.
