1828 O.101. Curl Base, Pointed Top 2, Small 8s. Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated. Probably the Finest Known as this is the finest reported in AMBPR by Steve Herrman and is the finest listed in the Overton/Parsley census as the sole MS64. Although a common variety, the present coin is simply a delight to study. Creamy white lustre throughout, and sharply impressed on all save two obverse stars which don't quite show their bold radial lines. There are signs of toning--a thin golden hue--but this fails to diminish the booming radiance imparted by the dies. Examination of the surfaces will find a couple of tiny scuffs on Liberty's jaw and neck, while the open fields are very clean and attractive. A coin of exceptional quality. PCGS MS64.
Ex Remick Collection (Stack's, September 1997, lot 824).
