A beautiful coin that boasts light reddish-tan color throughout, a solid strike and seductive visual appeal. There is a faint hairline scratch in the left obverse field, beginning close to Liberty's chin and extending toward the fifth star. On the reverse a minute scratch or series of ticks crosses the first 'T' of STATES and curls up to the edge above the next letter. All seen have a minor obverse die crack through the stars on the right. No spotting or similar problems are present which detract, although two tiny specks of carbon are present at the top of Liberty's head. Glossy tan lustre in the fields, and of exceptional quality for this elusive type issue.

Ex David Proskey; Henry Hines; Homer Downing privately; William H. Sheldon to R. E. Naftzger in 1972; Herman Halpern Collection (Stack's, March 1988, lot 271).
