1901'O' Gem Brilliant Uncirculated and a simply gorgeous example! Occasionally, even an auction cataloguer encounters a coin that leaves an indelible picture in his/her mind. The presently offered specimen is just such a coin. From the standpoint of raw visual allure, a collector would probably spend countless years searching for, finding, and with any luck successfully acquiring an example of this date that can even remotely hold a candle to the coin presented here. The toning offers an essentially unimprovable swathe of rich gold that is framed by the most exquisite iridescent shades of pastel-green, champagne-rose, and pale blue. The surfaces, likewise, are incredibly smooth, and are drenched in a decadently luxurious measure of deep silken lustre. Alas, even this coin is not perfect as there is a ridiculously trivial obverse facial line or two, as well as a few incredibly well hidden tiny marks in the most inconspicuous locations.
In light of the extreme paucity of high quality examples of this very rare date, we have absolutely no reservations in stating that the coin offered here is among the finest known. If you have not taken the time to save a mental picture of this coin in your mind, then we suggest that you do so for this jewel will almost certainly be the benchmark by which you measure every other 1901'O' half dollar that you ever encounter!
