1892'O' Micro 'O'. Brilliant Uncirculated and a Choice example but for some faint obverse slide marks. Sharply struck and drenched in a full measure of frosty mint lustre. The surfaces are accented by overlying shades of intermingled lavender-rose and russet toning. As stated in the description of the immediately preceding lot, this variety is extremely rare in full Mint State. The presence of two such coins in a single auction sale should not in any way be construed as indicating that this variety is readily available, as the exact opposite is true. Indeed, it is both ''unfair'' and unreasonable to ever encounter a single collector who owns two such pieces, especially when both are in mint condition! These two Micro O Half Dollars, both the property of the same consignor, and both bought nearly 20 years apart constitute a monumental ''once in a lifetime'' offering as it is hard to imagine that two such pieces will be sold in the same auction sale (let alone the same year) at any point again during our lifetime!
Ex Robert W. Schwan Collection (Bowers and Merena, October 26-27, 2000, lot 1339).
