1873 Arrows. Open 3. Small Arrows. WB.109. Quadruple Stripes in Shield. Brilliant Uncirculated, in terms of wear, but the surfaces were lightly burnished or cleaned with resulting hairlines on both sides. Starting to retone with gold and russet near the rims, and sharply struck. The quadruple stripes feature on the shield is a result of a slightly doubled obverse die; curiously additional doubling is found on UNITED. The reverse die has a thin crack through the arrow points, another near the top of the reverse in the legend. Identifiable by a tiny nick on the post of the 'D' of UNITED, another above the 'R' of TRUST in the motto in the field. Still and all, a rare coin which is seldom offered in grades even approaching the present example, and with enough eye appeal to mitigate the past cleaning to a large degree.
