1861 Type II Obverse (Six vertical lines above the ribbon on the obverse shield). This coin appears to be Var.111 (R-4) based upon the position and slope of the date, however there is die clashing on the reverse not mentioned by Fortin. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated with claims to the Gem category. An agreeable shade of balanced olive-golden toning bathes unbroken, deep velvet mint bloom. The obverse strike is absolutely razor-sharp. The reverse is nearly so.
If indeed this piece is a Var.111, it compares quite favorably to Fortin's plate coin (a Very Fine).
