1821 JR-3 (R-4). Large Date. Brilliant Uncirculated. Obverse type: Liberty's capped bust facing left. LIBERTY engraved around the base of her cap, large 1821 below her bust. Reverse type: Modified heraldic eagle derived from the Great Seal of the United States of America. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the upper half of the rim. E PLURIBUS UNUM on a scroll above the eagle's head. Denomination '10 C' below the eagle. A very scarce variety of this date. The JR-3 1821 Dime is almost never found in grades better than EF. An AU coin is important but Uncirculated examples are extremely rare. There may be as few as four or five known, including Eliasberg's and Lovejoy's. So tough is the variety that the best the editors of the JR reference had ever seen were two that graded Choice VF. Beautifully toned, in pale gray and gold shades on both sides. The fields are lustrous and attractive.
