1814 JR-3 (R-2). Large Date. Gem Brilliant Uncirculated. Obverse type: Liberty's capped bust facing left. LIBERTY engraved around the base of her cap, large 1814 below her bust. Reverse type: Modified heraldic eagle derived from the Great Seal of the United States of America. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the upper half of the rim. E PLURIBUS UNUM on a scroll above the eagle's head. Denomination '10 C' below the eagle. A gorgeous Gem example and one of the best seen. A very interesting piece with some unique toning schemes on both sides. The obverse shows a crescent-shaped area of deep coin silver gray and gold toning on the left, while the remainder of the coin is bright silver gray and lustrous. On the reverse, there is an area of light silver gray in the center and upper right, while the rest of the surface is toned in the same pale iridescent gold seen on the obverse. There are nearly full mint lustre cartwheels visible on both sides.
