 1807 JR-1 (R-2). Choice Brilliant Uncirculated. Obverse type: Liberty's draped bust facing right. LIBERTY above, 1807 below. Reverse type: Heraldic eagle derived from the Great Seal of the United States of America. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around. A pleasing example of the final year of the type. No Dimes were struck in 1806, probably because the unprecedentedly high mintage of 1805 sufficed for circulation needs. The coinage of 1807 was even higher and the two mintages combined most likely account for the absence of Dimes dated 1808 and 1810 since none may have been felt to have been needed. This piece is brightly toned in pale silver gray on both sides. The fields are quite bright in appearance. The obverse die that struck this piece has severely clashed with the reverse, and there are incused impressions of the reverse wreath visible in the upper right obverse field.
