1803 JR-3 (R-4). About Uncirculated. Obverse type: Liberty's draped bust facing right. LIBERTY above, 1803 below. Reverse type: Heraldic eagle derived from the Great Seal of the United States of America. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around. A high grade example of a variety that is almost never found in AU and one that is extremely rare in Unc. Eliasberg's was graded just a tad better than this, for example, but only just, at Choice AU. Very darkly toned, in rich coin silver gray and iridescent blue shades. Obverse die broken at left and heavily through the date. Center of obverse somewhat soft, as struck.
