1797 JR-2 (R-4). 13 Star Obverse. About Uncirculated. Obverse type: Liberty's draped bust facing right. LIBERTY above, 1797 below. 13 stars around. Reverse type: Small eagle within a wreath. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around. Interesting, nearly two-tone coloring on both sides, a combination of deep and lighter silver gray shades. Well struck in the centers. An extremely high grade for one of these. The editors of the JR reference knew of only three examples that might grade higher, Lovejoy:9 and the Hain Family coin being among the nicest seen. The Eliasberg coin graded only VF.
