
1796 John Reich 4 (R-4). Gem Brilliant Uncirculated. Obverse type: Liberty's draped bust facing right. LIBERTY above, 1796 below. 13 stars around. Reverse type: Small eagle within a wreath. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around. The obverse is beautifully toned in a bright, iridescent blue around the rim with pleasing pale gold and gray in the center. The reverse is a lovely combination of light gold and pale gray. The piece is beautifully lustrous on both sides. There is an area of lighter toning vertically down through the center of the reverse. Graded equivalent to the lovely example in our 65th Anniversary Sale and higher than any in our sale of John Whitney's celebrated collection of the coins of 1796.
