 1857'O' Choice Brilliant Uncirculated. Bright canary-yellow gold lustre draws the viewer's attention to the meticulous strike on this unusually high quality example of an elusive New Orleans date. Only 34,000 were struck, long before collecting by mintmark could save any appreciable number of high grade examples. The Dannreuther-Garrett 10-year auction record shows this to be the highest grade offered, represented by a single fully Choice specimen. NGC has certified only one higher and only two coins at the present coin's high grade, NGC MS63.
