1821 JR-4 (R-2). Large Date. Brilliant Uncirculated. Obverse type: Liberty's capped bust facing left. LIBERTY engraved around the base of her cap, large 1821 below her bust. Reverse type: Modified heraldic eagle derived from the Great Seal of the United States of America. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the upper half of the rim. E PLURIBUS UNUM on a scroll above the eagle's head. Denomination '10 C' below the eagle. An important example of a variety that is extremely rare in Uncirculated condition. The editors of the JR reference wrote that a Choice AU was the best they had ever seen. Lovejoy's was graded EF. Eliasberg did not have one of this variety. The obverse is a nice, light silver gray in color while the reverse is a deeper shade. There are one or two areas of darker toning visible on the back. Well struck and lustrous.
