Undated (circa 1667) St. Patrick (Mark Newby) Farthing. Breen 208. Nothing below king. Reeded edge...Undated (circa 1667) St. Patrick (Mark Newby) Farthing. Breen 208. Nothing below king. Reeded edge is weak. 84.9 gns. Choice Very Good. Light chocolate brown and remarkably smooth. When viewed on its edge, this coin is definitely thinner at the upper right obverse and upper left reverse; it is no surprise then that these areas are the roughest and most weakly defined, as there wasn't sufficient metal in those areas to fill the dies and obliterate the rough, virgin planchet surface. The colon after REX seems to be composed of three vertical dots. Brass splasher is light yellow-brown and is quite elongated, reaching to almost touch the top of harp's wing. Here is a pleasing coin for the type.

Ex Bowers & Ruddy, privately, January 1976.
