Undated (circa 1667) St. Patrick (Mark Newby) Farthing. Breen 216. Sea beasts and Large 8 below king. Reeded edge. 89.3 gns. Choice Very Fine. Light brown devices, legends, and rims stand out boldly against deep coffee brown fields on both sides. Brass splasher is present but has become one with the coin's overall patina. Old scratches from central to upper obverse. The central weakness of both sides and the weakness at upper left reverse may be attributed to inherent dips in the planchet in those areas. King, St. Patrick, church and various animals are otherwise bold, as is the huge '8' situated below the kneeling King David's knees. The varieties with this symbol below the King are all rare.
