Undated (circa 1667) St. Patrick (Mark Newby) Farthing. Breen 218. Martlet (small bird) below king....Undated (circa 1667) St. Patrick (Mark Newby) Farthing. Breen 218. Martlet (small bird) below king. 84.5 gns. Extremely Fine. Boldly struck and well-detailed on a wide planchet, this specimen exhibits even granularity on both sides with some larger pits noted on obverse. The clarity of detail, however, is quite exquisite, with the all important martlet hovering clearly below King David's knees. Brass splasher is well centered and oblong in shape and has toned to a lovely antique gold hue. The with Martlet type is very rare and is always pursued when offered for sale.

Ex The Collections of Arthur Sipe & Everett W. Ness (Bowers & Merena, January 1984, lot 360).
