1871 Judd 1082 (R-8). Aluminum, RE. Choice Brilliant Proof. Barber's feather-crowned ''Indian Princess'' Liberty appears seated with twin banners on a world globe in a circle of stars. This reverse identifies the proposed STANDARD SILVER Pattern series that was to employ .900 Silver coins of lighter weight to post-Civil War after years of coin hoarding. The present Pattern was struck in Aluminum, then a rare metal, and shows deep mirror fields and crisply defined reliefs. Obverse center shows a strip of deep toning, reverse is fully lustrous. This is the only example certified by NGC or any grading service, and appears as unique in Bowers' update of Dr. J. Hewitt Judd's standard reference to American Pattern coins. NGC PF63.
