1876 Doubled Die Obverse. FS#5¢-012.1. Fletcher-05. Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated. Here is a fully lustrous coin that exhibits silver-gray surfaces and light golden toning. Strike is a bit above average, with only minor weakness in some of the obverse leaves. The doubled die is the ''standard'' type encountered on so many dates of Shield Nickels - there is a strong spread between the two die impressions toward the south, with strong doubling most visible at the annulet, cross, and flourishes in the shield. Very scarce and desirable.
