Colony of the Massachusetts Bay. December 7, 1775. One Shilling & Six Pence. No.??93. Signed by Plympton and Wheeler. Revere Sword in Hand Note. Printed on moderately thin stock for this issue. A genuine Sword in Hand note. The low denominations were generally not counterfeited (it did not pay). Split in half, and with that fact on the table, Good or so. The face is fairly clean, but the back shows some soiling and staining. However, an affordable example of an American currency classic.
By the Act of December 22, 1775, 75,000 Pounds of additional Sword in Hand vignetted notes, engraved and printed by Paul Revere, were authorized. The two face plates and back plates received the proper modifications for the new series date. Only one due date was used in the texts, 'December 7, 1781' despite the fact that there were two other redemption windows available. The lower denomination face plate still exists.
