1787 Machin's Mills (Atlee) Halfpenny. Vlack 17-87B. 105.9 gns. Rich mahogany brown surfaces dominate, with lighter clay-brown tones highlighting the crevices and borders of the devices on both sides. A glass reveals minor, uniform porosity in the surfaces, which are most hard and a bit glossy. In addition, a small verdigris area behind George's head blends well with the coin's patina and is not immediately noticeable. Struck from a die state roughly between lots 75 and 76 of the Albany Collection, with the cracking of 'GE' and the sinking of the reverse die in a more advanced state than 75 but not so advanced as 76.
