Yellow-gold surfaces offer traces of original lustre, moderate circulation with a wealth of bold detail. This desirable wartime date saw only 1,218 business strikes and 30 Proofs produced. Akers' research showed more Proofs appearing at auction than highest grade business strikes. This date appears only 16 times in the Dannreuther-Garrett 10-year auction record, which includes a single Mint State example and nine AU pieces. Here is a coin whose rarity and importance are impossible to overstate and which will be the keystone to some great collection of American Gold.

Lot # 1492 Session 2
