Betts 515. William Pitt Medal (1766). Copper, 41.5mm. Choice Very Fine. Obv. Bust l. in boldly defined...Betts 515. William Pitt Medal (1766). Copper, 41.5mm. Choice Very Fine. Obv. Bust l. in boldly defined wig, no artist's signature. Attempted piercing creates a notch rather than a hole at 12:00. Rev. THE MAN/ WHO HAVING/ SAVED THE/ PARENT PLEADED/ WITH SUCCESS/ FOR HER/ CHILDREN. 'F' of FOR is over CH as Ford XIV:377. Betts blithely notes ''two varieties... with slight differences,'' nowhere explained by him nor clearly defined in Ford.
