1785 Vermont Copper. Landscape type. Ryder 2 (R-3+). VERMONTS obverse spelling. 135.2 gns. Choice Extremely Fine, nearly About Uncirculated. Supremely choice, chocolate brown fields are glossy and ever so gently lustrous on both sides. The central devices, including the sun rising over the Green Mountain range, are bold and quite fully struck and are a lighter olive-brown in hue, contrasting with the slightly darker fields. There are some of the usually spindly planchet striae at the lower obverse and lower reverse, weakening the date and letters in those areas. Struck a bit off-center on both sides toward 5:00 on the obverse and 8:00 on the reverse, cutting off the tops of some of the lettering. These minor flaws can be easily forgiven when the overall superior surface quality of this coin is factored in. Here is an amazing specimen of the charming landscape type that is easily among the finest survivors of the variety.
