1920'S' Gem Brilliant Uncirculated. Pervasive frosty lustre is infiltrated by the most subtle hint of pale green-gold to give this marvelous San Francisco coin its distinctive shimmering beauty. The strike shows faint die clash in the fields but this extraordinary Gem is a solid candidate for a high rank in any Condition Census that might be drawn up for this classically rare post-war date. Sharply reduced demand for coins of all denominations caused drastic curtailment of mintages, sharply contrasting with earlier demands on production triggered by the war. San Francisco was especially hard hit, with its 1920 Nickel production severely curtailed. Apparently neither dealers nor collectors saved any significant quantity of Mint State examples thanks to the bitter economic conditions prevailing in 1920-1921. This Gem's appearance at auction offers a significant opportunity to obtain one of the finest known examples of this sought-after Branch Mint date.
