1794 S.26. Mint State-65, or finer. Here is a ''monster'' of a coin. It is the finest known specimen for the variety, and only one coin is graded higher by either major service for the entire type!
The color is a beautiful red and brown. A few darker spots can be found with careful scrutiny, but they really are of no consequence. The strike is exceptionally strong with even the most minute of details being razor-sharp. There are hollow areas in the hair as the result of die polishing to remove clash marks, this is a hallmark of this variety. This coin is from die state VII, the reverse shows heavy clash marks. One die crack is found running from the rim, through the first 'S' and ending between the inner wreath and the 'C' in CENT. A second crack initiates at the rim and travels through the 'E' of STATES, ending at the top left leaf of the wreath. The centering of the coin is perfect.
Here is the rare opportunity to obtain a truly fantastic coin. This specimen is sure to be the highlight of a high end variety, date or type set. As a testament to the superior quality of this example, it is the specimen that Louis Eliasberg chose to represent the date in his world famous collection. PCGS MS66RB.
