1789 Mott Token. Thin Planchet. Engrailed Edge. Copper. Breen 1025. 104.5 grains. Choice Extremely Fine. Golden brown obverse is from the early state of the die without the large die break on the clock, while the reverse is a dark steely brown. The central strike is a bit weak, revealing some of the underlying, inherent roughness of the planchet. A large curved planchet clip is noted at the 12:00 position of both sides. Although this coin appears ''thick'' when viewed from the edge, given its light weight (even considering the clip), we believe it to be a thin planchet issue.
