Olive-gold tones dominate and are joined by coppery tones on both sides. Well struck and quite attractive on the overall, this specimen exhibits a tiny hole at the 1:30 clock position when viewed from the obverse. According to Breen-Gillio, it was possibly this variety that was noted as early as April of 1853 by the Sacramento Daily Union. This specimen, which is new to the Census, should excite specialists in the series who are clamoring to add this extremely rare variety to their collections. The MS62 Jay Roe specimen was bid to nearly $10,000 two years ago.
