1857 James Buchanan Indian Peace Medal. Silver, 75.5mm. 2,364.7 grains. J.IP.34. Technically Very Fine. Light silver gray in color on both sides. Obverse surface with the usual myriad of tiny nicks suggestive of wear as a decoration by its recipient and his descendants. Reverse damaged, weaponry effaced from the design around the bottom left and right. Holed for suspension, original loop still attached. Quite rare, only 69 were struck.
Ex David Dreyfuss Collection (Presidential Coin & Antique and Bowers & Merena, April 1986, lot 5170).
