1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 48-g. Rahway Mint. 162.7 grains. Uncirculated. Here is a most beautiful specimen of this common Maris variety featuring lustrous, chestnut brown fields with lighter brown highlights and even hints of original mint red in the most protected areas of the reverse shield and legends. Perfectly centered with some denticulation present, the strike is bold and full with just some very subtle weakness at the high points of the horse's neck. A minuscule rim clip is noted adjacent to 'N' of NOVA. Some minor carbon flecking is most probably the result of very thin laminations that have toned a deep ebony hue. This high grade, lustrous specimen has a lovely feel in the hand and would make a fine specimen for a high end type or variety collection.
