1798 S.187. Arc Cracks. Mint State-60. This obverse shows a well-developed die crack forming an arc from the upper rim through 'T' to the base of 'Y' and back to the right rim at 2:30. A second arc leaves the right rim at 4:00 and curves up to meet the first. The beautifully struck coin's rich, delightfully smooth surfaces are a glossy orange-brown. A meticulous strike results in a wealth of minute wreath detail. Grade places this coin near the top of the Breen-Borckardt, Noyes and CQR Condition Census listings. Here is an ideal 1798 for either a date or variety collection, this would be a difficult coin to match for outstanding beauty. It can be safely said that this example shows the somewhat unspectacular design at its reflective best.
