1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 40-b (R-5+). Late Rahway or Elizabethtown. 131.3 grains. Very Good. Surfaces are toned in salmon and brown hues and exhibit microscopic granularity and patches of hairlines from an unfortunate past cleaning. The central devices, however, are quite bold and well defined, while the peripheral legends and the date are weak to nonexistent. No clear signs of an undertype are discernable due to the surface quality. Despite this coin's shortcomings, this specimen will find a welcome home in the holdings of a collector chasing this very elusive Maris variety.
