White ink on edge. 140.6 gns. Obverse a variegated combination of medium and orange brown with a few areas darker; the reverse a more even medium brown, a patch of darker coloring at the lower left, a little lighter in shade at the upper right. Obverse surface appears microgranular everywhere, rough on the shoulder, flawed through the upper third, rim quite rough and ragged above 'CO'. There is a pronounced planchet cutter mark running clear around the obverse from about 9:00 to 2:00, the result of an imperfect cut in the first pass in the cutter. Reverse fields fairly smooth most everywhere save for upper left where there are a couple of pronounced flaws, linear flaw runs through Liberty's knees, globe, ending below shield, planchet cutter mark complementary to the one seen on the obverse visible here around the base of the reverse from 9:00 to about 5:00, rim quite ragged at that last point, beveled at the top. No visible incused date above effigy's head. The small numeral '4' on the obverse is probably the collector's estimate of the variety's rarity rating.

Pedigree unrecorded (probably ex Hays). Round Circle H collector's ticket accompanies the lot.
