Frederik III. Ducat, 1668. Mailed bust r. in dotted circle. Rv. 9-fold Arms of Denmark and her possessions. Fr.82, KM 304. This coin's portrait is distinctly unflattering though true to life. Frederik III wished to devote his life to the Lutheran state church but was elected King at a difficult time. Defeated by the Swedes, he nonetheless succeeded with internal reforms, including transforming the monarchy to a strictly hereditary institution. Glorious reflective fields and crisp reliefs create unusual beauty. Brilliant Uncirculated or better. (Est. $3,000-$4,000)
