The youngest of the three Antonine brothers, Lucius Antonius ''Pietas'' joined his brother Marc Antony as his legate in Gaul, after his eldest brother's ouster from Italy at the hands of Ocatvian. Elected consul in 41 B.C., Lucius Antonius began direct confrontation with the Triumvir Octavian. At first a political, propaganda-driven campaign, hostilities blossomed into military engagement. Calling in legions from Spain, Octavian besieged Lucius Antonius at Perusia (the modern Perugia) and the ''Perusine War'' ended in February 40 B.C. with Lucius' surrender. Seeking to keep Lucius Antonius from the political arena of Roma, Octavian appointed him promagistrate in Spain, where he appears to have died not long after.
