Ornate crowned Arms. Fr.1179, KM 226. The fields display remarkable prooflike brilliance, the needle-sharp devices are finely frosted. A glass finds some minor hairlines. Georg V was one of the few ruling Kings afflicted with blindness and faced the ever-increasing threat of an expansive Prussia. Refusing a Prussian ultimatum in 1866, he found his army defeated and Hannover annexed to Prussia. Georg lived out his life in exile although a substantial body of loyal adherents remained as the Welfenbund well into modern times. Brilliant Uncirculated. (Est. $3-$3,500)
