1800 JR.2 (R-5). About Uncirculated. An evenly struck and strong coin for the grade which is toned with vibrant splashes of teal, aqua and gold over lustre. Such toning is generally the result of several decades housed in a Wayte Raymond coin page. Scattered nicks from brief circulation, including a minor mark on Liberty's breasts and a rim scrape over the 'E' of AMERICA. Minor hairlines are present, but they are old and toned over nicely.
Early Dimes from 1796 through 1807 present quite a challenge for the date or variety collector. Few are found in high collector grades of Extremely Fine or finer, and a significant number are found with damage. In past decades the scarcer die pairings would only show up when a significant specialized collection would cross the auction block, with scattered single coins turning up now and then. Today, such specialized collections are seldom seen. The present offering of Dimes was assembled roughly 40 to 50 years ago and has been off the market since that time.
