1798/7 JR.1 (R-3). 16 Stars reverse. Fine. Smooth and attractive with gunmetal gray hues on both sides....1798/7 JR.1 (R-3). 16 Stars reverse. Fine. Smooth and attractive with gunmetal gray hues on both sides. Well centered and struck, with minor surface nicks as expected for the grade. The reverse die is from a group of four long neck eagle dies prepared in 1796, three of which were used to coin 1796 Quarter Eagles. The reverse die seen here was first used to coin 1797 Quarter Eagles before striking these 1798 Dimes. A desirable coin for the clean surfaces and good eye appeal.
