1857 N.1. Large Date. Mint State-63. Red and Brown. The obverse is nearly full mint red; the reverse has faded to a pleasant medium brown with red underlying highlights. A few obverse carbon specks reside in the field before Liberty's face. Another is visible on star nine. A scarce variety to find with this degree of original red, and especially so with such clean surfaces. Final year of issue for the Large Cents, and always in demand.
Ex Grand Central Coin Convention Sale (Lester Merkin, November 5, 1965, lot 130).
