1853 N.10. Mint State-65 or finer. Red. An outstanding Gem specimen that retains spectacular fiery red mint color, and lacks all but the most inconsequential of microscopic carbon specks. The surfaces furthermore, are nearly free of contact as a strong loupe is needed to find even the slightest imperfection. Condition such as this has never gone out of style, and few examples can approach the surface quality and red color seen on the present coin. Called 'Fiery Red MS-70 gem' in Helfenstein sale.
Ex Louis Helfenstein Collection (Lester Merkin, August 14, 1964, lot 291); said in that sale to be from Merkin privately.
