1844 Choice Very Fine. Cleaned long ago and nicely recovering. All business strike 1844 Seated dollars have quadruple shield stripes, a result of a slightly doubled die. On the reverse, there are several die file lines beneath the eagle's wings, and this date has earned the name the ''armpit'' variety. Average surfaces and generally gray in color, with a frame of rainbow peripheral hues. One of only 20,000 pieces struck.
