1836 Gobrecht. Name on Base. Eagle Flying Amid Stars. Judd 60. Silver, Plain Edge. Die Alignment I. Original. The head of Liberty on the obverse is opposite the 'D' in DOLLAR on the reverse. Choice Brilliant Proof and exhibiting quite a bit of field reflectivity for a coin of this issue. The strike is quite sharp, including both the eagle's breast feathers and the shield of Liberty. A deep veil of iridescent lavender and gray toning immerses both the obverse and reverse, and there is a single tiny spot in the reverse field that does not terribly detract. A highly important design type both for regular issue as well as pattern collectors. With there being no known Gem Proof original Gobrecht Dollars that exhibit this die alignment, and only a very limited number of near-Gem Original Gobrecht Dollars of any die alignment, the piece offered here is certainly a coin of substantial substance!
