Louis XV, 1715-1774. 2 Louis d'or de Noailles, 1717 A. Child's head l. wearing the royal crown. Rv. Cruciform shields of France and Navarre, lis in angles. Gad.344, Fr.450, KM 428.1. This three-date type was authorized by the Edict of Nov. 18, 1716 to circulate at 30 Livres tournois (33 in Alsace). Coins of this type were ordered struck from freshly prepared planchets, in sharp contrast to the blundered, repeatedly overstruck Réformation coins resorted to in the economic upheavals of the previous reign. Close study under a glass will find one or two tiny tics, otherwise the coin boasts smoothly glowing surfaces, lustrous gold fields and subtly frosted devices. Brilliant Uncirculated. (Est. $7,000-$8,000)
