Louis XIV. Louis d'or au buste juvénile à la tête lauré, 1664 A. Différents Lion Passant; Castle, J. Baptiste du Four. Young head r. with long locks and laurel crown. Rv. Cruciform double L's, lis in angles, 'A' at center. Gad.246, Fr.421, KM 200.1. Dazzling quality results from an exacting strike clothed in richly flashing gold lustre. Valued at 10 Livres tournois by Edict of March 31, 1640, the buste juvenile designs are believed to have obtained the verbal approval of the young King, but none of them were specified in the enabling edicts. Virtually unknown in this spectacular grade, Brilliant Uncirculated. (Est. $3,000-$3,500)
