1855 N.11 (Low R-7). Slanting 5s. Gem Proof-65. Brown. Toned a light chocolate-brown and still retaining considerable underlying mint color. Iridescent champagne and lilac highlights enliven both the fields and design features when examined under a light. Once again, we applaud our consignor for finding examples with amazing surface quality, as the present lot is certainly no exception. There are no disturbing spots or signs of contact that warrant attention. Extremely rare. Although no provenance was included, this coin can likely be traced using old photographic plates from the sales noted in Breen's Proof Encyclopedia. We suspect the present coin was last sold in the 1960's as the estimate noted on the flip is $150.
